The Sussex Harmonisers is a male voice chorus singing in the Barbershop style under the leadership of our Musical Director, Zoe Peate:
We are a show chorus aiming to entertain people across the South, but in particular in Sussex. If you'd like more details about what we could contribute to your special occasion, please click here
In addition to our weekly rehearsals we perform throughout the year to a variety of audiences, and hold social functions each year for our members and their families.
We also aim to compete in the annual Barbershop Convention held by our national organisation,
The British Association of Barbershop Singers, and at other festivals.
Some of our highlights from 2011:
- in August we took part in the Proms in the Paddock, organised by the Commercial Square Bonfire Society in Lewes.

- in July we took part in an evening concert of musical friendship with the Fleckenberger Sound Projekt, a mixed contemporary choir from Burgess Hill's twinned town of Schmallenberg, Germany. Watch us perform one of our numbers on
You Tube.
- we competed in the national chorus competition held by the British Association of Barbershop Singers at their annual Convention, this year, in Llandudno.

Under the direction of our new MD, Zoe Peate, we came a magnificent 12th out of 33 competitors.
- we took part in the Brighton Fringe Festival for the first time, hosting two very successful evening shows at The Old Courtroom in Church Street over the weekend of 7th and 8th of May.

- on 25th February we took part in '
The Brandenburg Spring Choral Festival - A Celebration of Barbershop' at
The New Players Theatre, and sang alongside
Capital Connection and
Crossfire. Check out our exuberant performance in the after-show glow -
our first outing on You Tube.

Our history
The first Brighton barbershop club was formed in 1971, and was a lively and successful participant in the barbershop scene (to find out more about the Barbershop history and style, click here). However like many it had a fallow period, but rose again in 1996 with the support of the Crawley Chordsmen (the first barbershop club to be established in the
UK). The Chordsmen and Harmonisers maintained a close relationship which gradually developed to the extent that by 2003 they had an MD in common and very similar repertoires. So close had that relationship become that in 2004 the clubs decided to experiment with joint rehearsals. These proved so successful that our present club was formed from former Crawley and Brighton members in 2005 and moved to the new St Paul’s Catholic College building in Burgess Hill.
